Second Place: Al Faisaliya Women Welfare Society in Jeddah

Al Faisaliya Women Welfare Society was established in Jeddah in the year 1396H and its services are limited to Jeddah Region. The number of society’s beneficiaries has reached 2,200 beneficiaries. The society’s fields of activity cover: Training and rehabilitation for women, orphans and women with special needs. The society launches and implements many social, health and rehabilitation programs for the needy and low-income families, and has played an important role in supporting cultural, religious and educational programs in the community. The society began to update its programs and activities to cope with the progress of the community and the need to achieve its sustainable development goals. Therefore, the society’s committees were developed and converted to centers, followed by the development of the society’s objectives and programs. The society’s programs target poor and low-income families, divorcees, prisoners’ families, persons with special needs and children with autism and their families.


Winning Justifications:

  • The society has a board of directors that operates on the basis of institutional teamwork, and the expertise of the members of the board of directors is used to achieve the society’s mission, supervise its four centers and evaluate its work on an ongoing basis. In addition, the board of directors contributes to the programs planning processes in cooperation with the executive team and holds regular meetings to assess roles and discuss the disadvantages for early elimination. Furthermore, the board has established communication mechanisms with all members., and the society is considered one of the leading women's societies in the field of community development and family care. The society faced three challenges throughout its operations: How to benefit from the large area of land held by the society. In this regard, the society has allocated a part of the land for the endowment (waqf) project and for constructing a new headquarters as the present headquarters buildings were worn and should either be renovated or changed. Given the future financial challenges it may face due to the difficulty in attracting new financial resources to meet its increased spending on the projects, particularly the operating expenses, the society has planned to establish a charitable endowment to serve the association and its centers, which is expected to shift the society from limited financial resources to diversified and expanded resources. In addition, plans were drawn up for various investment programs to benefit from the expertise of the society in implementing income-generating projects and programs, rationalizing expenses and activating the work on community partnership with national institutions and private companies to finance these programs and projects. In view of the technical challenges and development of technology as reflected by the rising cost of technological items and devices required for building networks, and due to the distance between the headquarters and some branches, the society investigated the least costly ways to connect its networks and has adopted the most appropriate mechanisms in terms of cost and efficiency, and started to establish an infrastructure that’s appropriate to the network. The society is known for having a distinctive media activity with regard to social partnerships and communication networks through the Facebook, Twitter and Instagram networks. It invites public figures and celebrities who are socially influential to visit the society's centers and provides full media coverage in the newspapers and satellite channels for such visits. The society pays great attention to raising the capacity of employees and training them by implementing advanced courses in the field of computer and other specialized courses based on the needs of each department and in accordance with the requirements of the work and the society’s centers and departments. These efforts made the society excel in providing employees with high skills in the use of technology, which in turn contributed to raising the efficiency of human resources in the technical field enabling them to benefit from the use of modern programs to raise the efficiency of the work and develop the skills of managers and employees to achieve their career objectives.
